"I was very excited that my debut song was chosen for the game "Secret Online". They made a costume of the game character for me and I really enjoyed performing this song while wearing the costume!" - Saori@destiny

It's not much of a mystery why electropop producer Terukado saw potential in the up and coming talent mysteriously named "Saori@destiny". Paying her dues as a hopeful "On The Way To Akihabara Idol" she had her first break when her song Destiny's War was chosen for the game "Secret Online." Now backed by the new label, D-Topia Universe, Saori@destiny may soon be setting her sights well beyond Akihabara Idol status.

On July 10, 2011 Saori@destiny was kind enough to give an interview to Andrew from J-Pop World. All photos courtesy of Saori@destiny and D-Topia Universe.

On June 15 you will release a new mini album entitled "Domestic domain". Tell us all about it.

Since there was big earthquake in March around the same time of this production, it made a big influence on my views, my aims and sense of values. All of my feelings are harbored into the lyrics, as well as the album title "Domestic domain". I think this album became a kind of "destined work" in a sense.

Tell us about your new label, D-Topia Universe.

It's a new label, started up by the cooperation between Universal Music and D-topia entertainment, where my agent is from.

Will you be doing a tour to support the new release?

I don't have any plans to have live tour, but I will be visiting many places for the release events, also planning to have solo live performance at my release party!

We'd love to see you perform in the US sometime. Any plans for the future?

Unfortunately, I have no plan at this stage, but I will try my best to have live performances in US sometimes in the future!

How happy and surprised were you when your song Destiny's War was chosen for the game "Secret Online"?

I was very excited that my debut song was chosen for the game "Secret Online". They made a costume of the game character for me and I really enjoyed performing this song while wearing the costume!

Now that it's been a few years, what do you think about your debut album "Japanese Chaos"? Do you have happy memories working on it?

I think this album is my starting point as an artist. I always think back about this origin, and it makes me think of what I should express as saori@destiny into the next work, which seems like a guidepost for myself. When I think back now, I feel this album is a bit of a miraculous work since I spent only one week completing the recording.

How did working on that album change you and your view of making music?

I learned that it's not about the genre of music. It seems likely I found out about my color and how I should be as saori@destiny.

Chemical Soda is one of favorite songs of yours. How would you describe the emotions you get when you perform it?

I think this is very cute song so I really enjoy when I'm singing it! It makes me want to hop instinctively, and I think this song is one of the songs which I can enjoy together with the audience live!

We really liked World Wild 2010. What would you say is the main message of this song?

I've challenged Baile Funk for the first time throughout this song. I tried my best to use my voice to express lazy feelings. I chose the words of the lyrics more for the sound than the meaning itself, so I hope you enjoy them as the sounds of this song!

Your background seems to be somewhat of a mystery. Can you tell us something about your hometown, and what it was like growing up there?

My hometown is the countryside of Japan, where I have strong passions and am very proud of it. I used to swim a lot when I was kid, in fact I was so absorbed in swimming that I spent more time doing that than spending time at school.

Did you always want to be a singer?

I was interested in the world of entertainment, but not only as a singer. I didn't expect to become a "solo" singer, which was a surprising thing.

How did you first meet Terukado Onishi?

The first opportunity was when I entered an audition, and first met him in Kyoto. Actually, I got lost on the way to Kyoto and I made him wait, which is actually a bitter memory...

Outside of music, what do you like to do for fun and relaxation?

Definitely swimming is still my favorite thing to do. I want to swim excessively once I leave from my work.

Do you have anything else you want to bring up or comment on?

The new album "Domestic domain" became a historical work! Please listen to it!

Do you have a final message to all your fans?

I am very happy that people who lives overseas also have an interest about me, even though I'm working in Japan. I'm hoping to meet all of you at my live sometimes in the future!
